Art en Design

Isabelle Weydert (born in Antwerp, 1990) develops her first enthusiasm for painting and design during leisure workshops of painting and modelling, Cauka, at Rosières, Belgium: animals, ballerinas and fairy scenes flow from her fingers. At 17 years she follows her first life drawing workshop at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and becomes fascinated about drawing the human body.

At the age of 18 years, during an international scholar exchange program, she participates in the National Art Contest of Ecuador ‘Concurso Nacional de Artes Plasticas del Chimborazo 2009’ and becomes the youngest awarded artist among the 40 laureates, with her painting ‘ Nostalgia’ (a veiled Andean landscape with horses). This makes her decide to go for a bachelor’s degree of education, to become teacher for plastic arts and mathematics (University College Ghent, 2009-2012). At the same time she starts evening classes in life drawing at Sint-Lucasacademie, Ghent (2010-2012).

After obtaining the degree of teacher (Hogent) and the degree of Interior design (LUCA school of arts), she starts studying a master of advanced design and digital architecture in ELISAVA, Barcelona, in order to expand her mind and skills in art, design and architecture. Fascinated by the human body, she follows summer courses at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, 2010 and 2012. The human body is one of her most favourite topics, as it is an endless source of movements, expressions, feelings and emotions, that needs to live in harmony with its environment. It is the major drive for her to create individual-matched designs of interior, conceptualized to match an often pre-defined exterior world beyond own control.

In her drawings, paintings or sculptures, Isabelle creates powerful characters and portraits. Using essential lines and few colors only, the artist takes the people posing as a model - beyond the model, reducing them to the deepest essentials of their soul, reflecting inner peace, shame, restlessness, contemplation or other feelings. Her charcoal drawings highlight the human body by interplay of light and dark contrasts. In her paintings, portraits can convey childish innocence, to deep fierce and emotions.

In her realizations as interior designer, one clearly recognizes the extension of her artistic skills. Sketching take a central place in the creation of her new design ideas. While exploiting both existing and new materials, her projects can be daring and are characterized by an own original style, while striving to a fully functional and emotional connection with the customer. Essential lines, organic shapes, light and color contrasts play a crucial role in her design concepts, whereby she will turn all her efforts into creating a unique design in full harmony with the individual user(s) and his surroundings.
